A MIB file is composed with lines and length of lines is not limited.

Valid characters for creating ASN.1 lexical items are:

  • A to Z (LATIN CAPITAL LETTER A to LATIN CAPITAL LETTER Z)
  • a to z (LATIN SMALL LETTER A to LATIN SMALL LETTER Z)
  • 0 to 9 (DIGIT ZERO to DIGIT 9)
  • ! (EXCLAMATION MARK)
  • " (QUOTATION MARK)
  • & (AMPERSAND)
  • ' (APOSTROPHE)
  • ( (LEFT PARENTHESIS)
  • ) (RIGHT PARENTHESIS)
  • * (ASTERISK)
  • , (COMMA)
  • - (HYPHEN-MINUS)
  • . (FULL STOP)
  • / (SOLIDUS)
  • : (COLON)
  • ; (SEMICOLON)
  • < (LESS-THAN SIGN)
  • = (EQUALS SIGN)
  • > (GREATER-THAN SIGN)
  • @ (COMMERCIAL AT)
  • [ (LEFT SQUARE BRACKET)
  • ] (RIGHT SQUARE BRACKET)
  • ^ (CIRCUMFLEX ACCENT)
  • _ (LOW LINE)
  • { (LEFT CURLY BRACKET)
  • | (VERTICAL LINE)
  • } (RIGHT CURLY BRACKET)

Uppercase letters are different from lowercase letters, ASN.1 is case sensitive.

Lexical items are separated from each other by one or more separators or comments. Separators are made with the following characters:

  • HORIZONTAL TABULATION (ASCII code 9)
  • LINE FEED (ASCII code 10)
  • VERTICAL TABULATION (ASCII code 11)
  • FORM FEED (ASCII code 12)
  • CARRIAGE RETURN (ASCII code 13)
  • SPACE (ASCII code32)

All other characters are not allowed (with the exception of very specific and rares cases within comments or character strings).
